what's with the first bad reviewer?

Just got this from gold box for $169.
Therefore it's cheap compare to other unit of same level
I have the ps3 and this pioneer is not much slower on start up.
As for menu..just press menu and easily set to 720p or 1080p
and auto and HDMI or other output.
Almost all setup are yes/no question type. how hard can it be?
Picture and sound quality is on par with the ps3.
The unit is thin compare to first gen blue ray machine and remote looks clear.
The Disc tray is definately not loose.
It's normal like PC DVD-roms from samsungs or LG or sony etc..
you can't compare this to slot load ps3 stle when you have a tray.
you put a disc in and press a button to get it in...what do you do to
"manipulated" the tray? The default setup was to 480i because for those people that don't have a HDTV..
however, I hook it up to my sony receiver and sony HDTV and it comes right up through HDMI.
A menu is a menu... already has 4 languange and explain to you how to setup all kind of different audio , video setup plus menu settings.
what else do you want?
This is a budget model. it's low price.
if you want more function, pay extra 160 to get the one up model!
Cheap and easy

I agree with Andrew. I purchased it on GoldBox at a great price and with my gift certificates, it was very cheap indeed. I am one of those who are too busy to read every single word in the manual so I went directly to the instructions on installing it. It was simple to read and easy to install. Took me longer to move my TV stand than hooking it up to the TV. The only drawback, it came with RCA cable but not the HDMI. When the HDMI cables are selling at $.37 cents at Amazon, why can't Pioneer put one of the cheap HDMI cables in the box. The remote was not complicated that installation process was fast and easy. If you want cheap, easy to install and have the average expectations on picture clarity and sound, this is the unit for you.
Great Player and it's a Pioneer

Reviewer: P. Chang,
This is my first stand-alone player and it's hard not to compare it with the PS3. I love my PS3 because it does everything. Been wanting to buy a standalone player for a while and can't seem to agree on any one particular brand or model, mostly due to cost. Lately price has been dropping below $200. Was leaning toward the Samsung P1500, best features and overall price until Amazon had the Pioneer on sale. Pioneer only makes high end electronics. I am overall very satisfy with this unit. Load time on this unit depends on the disc. First time buyer, be aware that blu-ray players loads a lot slower than DVD players. It can take up to a minute or more to load a disc (PS3 loads within 15 seconds). This is consider fast compare to previous generation that sometimes take up to three minutes. Menu are simple and user friendly. Remote control is well made, a little too big. Unit is simple and elegant. Has all the necessary onboard sound decoders. I think this is a good buy for a mid level player. Only complaint is the noise it generates (grinding) when loading or searching of the disc. Curious if other players make the same noise?
PIONEER... is the best.

I read ALL the other reviews and came to my own conclusion... I just wanted Pioneer :) I've been using it a lot lately. Terminator Salvation; The Dark Knight; T2; Superman, The Last Starfighter... all AMA-ZA-ZING in blu-ray!

The player itself is a no-brainer. Getting everything set-up is easy. The tray does NOT rattle when it opens... it opens just fine :) The buttons are NOT flimsy... they are buttons :) and the lighting is JUST fine... I can read everything easily. The conroller could use a zoom button... but that's it, otherwise it's easy to use and works automatically on your TV. Some blu-ray's start right up, but like most players... it takes a moment ;) my T2 blu-ray starts up as fast as my regular DVD's... ssshhhhhhhhhhh... it's a secret ;) So aall-in-all... this Pioneer blu-ray player is awesome!
Pioneer BDP-120 Blu-ray Disc Player Excellent Product

Reviewer: Annie M. Rountree,
Excellent product, makes even the image on a regular DVD brighter and sharper. The remote is very easy to operate. The pause function is superb. The image looks as clear as a still shot. Even the sound that is liked to the surround system is sharper. Many times we have heard a knock or a whisper and thought there was someone actually behind us. It was not difficult to set up. Looked at many manufactures before deciding on the Pioneer BDP-120 1080P Blu-ray Disc Player. We choose the right product.
